Wind Rose

The wind rose was developed in order to show the frequency and strength of wind from various directions in a given area.  This particular wind rose is showing the reading from the Timber Weather Station on December 6th and 7th. On the map each ring represents the frequency in percentage that the wind is coming from a certain direction. Here the largest cone reaches to the ring that says 72% and is pointed in the West, this means that 72% of the time, winds blew from the West.  The smaller cone only reaches to 24% and pointed WSW indicating that 24% of the time, the winds blew from the WSW. The frequency of the wind is indicated by the color on the map there is a key included showing that the highest color is orange which is greater than 25 mph wind speed. The lowest color is a soft purple, which is just indicated as calm.
