Doppler Radar

A Doppler radar is a tracking system that uses Doppler to determine the location and velocity of a storm. This Doppler radar image shows Hurricane Francis coming over Florida on September 4, 2004 at 11:34 p.m. It shows that the western edge of the storm is moving inland and the eye of the storm is approaching the West Palm Beach area. The colors show the strength of returned energy to the radar in decibels, which is represented by DBZ. The green color indicates 30-35 DBZ, the yellow indicates 35-40 DBZ, and the blue indicates 15-20 DBZ.
